Sweet corn with types: sweet or super-sweet is greatly appreciated by Italian consumers and the restaurant sector.
The sweetcorn produced for Conserve Italia is of Italian origin. The cultivations come from seeds rigorously kept and “GMO Free”, which are produced and matured in Emilia-Romagna, the Provinces of Piacenza and Lombardy and in the Cremonese and the Lodigiano areas. Conserve Italia defines the moment of harvest, choosing the stage of ideal maturity, which is when the sweet corn is crisp and crunchy and still sweet. Overly mature would mean that the sweet corn would contain starches thus reducing the quality.
| After harvesting the corn cobs are transported to the plants where the leaves that wrap them are removed. They are "shelled" using special machinery that is extremely delicacy and doesn't damage the corn.
The sweetcorn kernels are washed in running water and then passed to the quality control phase where optical grading eliminates any residual cover and removes unwanted kernels. |
| This double grading operation, carried out on all Conserve Italia products, is entrusted in part to technology for absolute safeguards whilst the preparation and production is entrusted to experienced specialist staff that complete the cycle. The corn is selected, carefully washed and placed in tins with a little water and sugar.
The watertight, vacuum packed tin is passed to the next phase, the sterilisation and is so-called “steam cooked”.
With the vacuum and the “steam cooking”, the sweet corn rich flavour is preserved for any occasion. The minimal amount of natural liquid found when opening a tin confirms these characteristics. | |
